The Manoa REDD+ Project (Verra ID 1571) has reached an unprecedented milestone in the voluntary carbon market. On Friday, July 3, 2026, the project officially became the first in Latin America certified simultaneously under the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard), CCB (Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards) and SD VISta (Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard).

This achievement is accompanied by the approval of the 2023 and 2024 vintages, resulting in the issuance of over 2 million new certified carbon credits, consolidating the Manoa REDD+ Project among global benchmarks in climate integrity, biodiversity conservation, and positive socio-environmental impact generation.

Developed by Biofílica in partnership with Manoa Florestal, the project further strengthens its international relevance by demonstrating through independent audits that it is possible to combine high-integrity carbon credit generation with Amazon rainforest protection, local community empowerment, and sustainable development promotion.

A milestone for the voluntary carbon market

The SD VISta certification recognizes projects that demonstrate, through rigorous criteria and independent audits, measurable contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Manoa REDD+ Project was the first project in Brazil to meet the requirements of this standard, proving verified contributions to seven Sustainable Development Goals. Now, by combining this certification with the VCS and CCB standards, it also becomes the first project in Latin America to integrate the three leading international benchmarks for high-integrity carbon credit generation.

Beyond recognizing greenhouse gas emission reductions, the SD VISta certification highlights that the project delivers concrete benefits for people, biodiversity, and sustainable regional development.

SDG 4 – Quality Education

The Manoa REDD+ Project expands access to knowledge through lectures, low-impact forest management training, and environmental education initiatives.

In partnership with the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR), it supports scientific research with logistical assistance, strengthening knowledge production about the Amazon.

In addition, project resources enabled the construction of the Manoa Daycare Center, expanding access to early childhood education and directly contributing to the development of children in the municipality of Cujubim.

SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation

Forest management activities fully protect Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs), avoiding intervention and ensuring the conservation of approximately 5,119 hectares, contributing to water resource preservation and ecosystem services.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

The project promotes the creation of formal and quality jobs, prioritizing local labor from Cujubim and surrounding areas, in full compliance with labor laws and health and safety standards.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

Sustainable forest management strengthens responsible supply chains, supporting 26 local industries and promoting the use of sustainably sourced raw materials.

FSC® and PFSC certifications reinforce production traceability and environmental responsibility commitments.

SDG 13 – Climate Action

Amazon rainforest conservation enables the project to directly contribute to climate change mitigation, with an estimated avoidance of approximately 6,374,227 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent by the end of the second baseline period (2023–2028).

During this period, deforestation reduction is estimated at around 16,206 hectares, avoiding on average 1,062,371 tCO₂e per year, significantly contributing to regional climate stability and global climate targets.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

The project conserves more than 72,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest, protects High Conservation Value Areas (HCVAs), and maintains continuous monitoring of fauna and flora.

Field studies have already recorded more than 410 species, including endangered species, reinforcing the area’s importance for Amazon biodiversity conservation.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

The Manoa REDD+ Project strengthens partnerships with universities, public agencies, and local institutions, promoting scientific research, training, environmental education, and regional development initiatives.

By integrating verified climate, social, and environmental impacts, the project reinforces Nature-Based Solutions as essential tools to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.

A trajectory built on consistency

The 2026 achievement is the result of more than a decade of continuous work grounded in technical rigor, transparency, and consistent delivery of results.

With the approval of the 2023 and 2024 vintages, the Manoa REDD+ Project now makes available to the market over 2 million new certified carbon credits, expanding its contribution to companies committed to high-integrity climate strategies.

This new issuance adds to a solid track record built over the years:

  • Ten consecutive credited vintages (2013–2022), with no interruptions;
  • VCS, CCB, SD VISta certifications and FSC® and PFSC certified forest management, audited by independent bodies;
  • More than 90 public documents available in the Verra Registry, ensuring full transparency;
  • Verified contributions to seven Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Credit period valid until 2052.

These elements consolidate the Manoa REDD+ Project as one of the most robust and transparent initiatives in the voluntary carbon market in Latin America.

A refuge for Amazon biodiversity

Located in Rondônia, the Manoa REDD+ Project protects more than 72,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest, playing a strategic role in forming ecological corridors connected to regional conservation units.

In a context of strong pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion, the project area stands out for maintaining its forest cover virtually intact over the years, contributing to Amazon conservation and regional climate stability.

This ongoing conservation has turned the region into an important refuge for Amazon biodiversity. Field studies have recorded more than 410 fauna species, including endangered species, as well as numerous High Conservation Value Attributes (HCVAs) and rare ecosystems essential for environmental balance.

In addition to environmental benefits, the project also generates positive impacts for the municipality of Cujubim, creating jobs, strengthening the local economy, and promoting sustainable supply chains.
